Meet Paul, the one-year-old.

He is my little pistol, forever running around looking for adventure.  When his brothers and sisters go outside to play, he scoots out the door after them with amazing speed.  He has learned to open the door from the kitchen to the garage, and feels free whenever his requests for outside time are denied.

During church he alternates between piercing yells and charming smiles aimed at all the ladies within swooning range.  Today Paul's heart was captured by a six-year-old girl who happened to sit on the other side of our pew.  Like many other men before him, I suspect he was lured in by the pink sequens on her dress.  He walked up and gave her a hug, never taking his dazzled eyes off her.  Then he lavished her with jewelry, which just happened to be my watch.

He's bigger now, but I still miss him when he's sleeping.

Father's Day

How does TJ celebrate Father's Day?  By taking some well-deserved time off?

Nope.  He builds a fort for the kids.  That's why my kids are the luckiest in the world.

How To Keep Kids Occupied All Afternoon

Send them to the back yard where there's a full wading pool and ask them not to get wet.  Will they stay dry?  No.  Will they stay out of your way because they're having the time of their lives flirting with the water's edge?  Ohhh, yes.

Chillin' with the Monnetts

Watermelon Party

Taylor was feeling a little camera-shy.  Can you tell?

Lawson wasn't feeling shy.  As usual.

Karaoke Brunch at Patti Tippets' house.  Yes, brunch
Proving once again that Mormons need neither late hours nor alcohol in order to be goofy.

If I had to describe Naomi in one word, it would be

Exhibit B:

Don't tell her it looks weird.  She won't believe you.

Weston Spencer Monnett

Spencer and Kristen's baby boy was born last month!  His name is Weston Spencer Monnett, and he is oh so adorable!  Hail to the Monnett son who has come bearing hair!  He is a lucky baby to have such great people for parents.  I am so proud of my brother and his sweet wife.  Welcome to the family, Weston!

Justin and Marie

My cousin finally married his sweetheart, Marie!  Here are some pictures of the ceremony we went down to Las Vegas for:

Our New House!

Jody Cheever came over at about nine this morning to take the kids to the park and then to her house to play.  She's such a dear!  I put Paul down this morning for what turned out to be a long nap, and have been enjoying remarkable productivity for the past three hours.  I wonder if she's waiting for me to come and get the kids?  Maybe I'll just wait and see.

Here is the house we closed on last Friday.  Because we weren't planning on closing until later, we're going ahead with our plans to move early next week.  A series of large and small miracles lead us to and enabled us to buy this place.  It's in Bloomington Hills, just five minutes from TJ's work, seven to Georgia's house, and about fifteen from Mom and Dad's house.  We are sooooo grateful for the outpouring of blessings we're experiencing.  We can't wait to move in and start fixing up our house and making it our own.  Nine days and counting!

Book Club

Last week I had all the girls over for one last book group together. I'm not the only one who's leaving: Tara Jones moved to California just days later, and Alison Carlson is headed to Washington toward the end of the summer. In honor of our last night all together, we had a huge turkey dinner with all the trimmings.

We reviewed two books: The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands, by Laura Schlessinger, and Behind Every Good Man by John Bytheway. I make every book group I'm in read Proper Care and I want you to read it, too. It has revolutionized our marriage.

Sadly, I remembered to take this picture only after Alison had gone home.  As you can see, someone had made some kind of wisecrack right before the picture was taken, so we're all laughing.  Pretty fitting, since most of our discussions were less than acedemic and were conducted at decible levels that would wake some of the dead authors whose work we talked about.  Ask TJ.  He'll tell ya how loud we get.  We also have had a lot of fun going out for dessert and occasionally shopping together.  I will miss you ladies!
On the back row are Lindsey Sanders, Toni Howe, Chris Holmberg, Tara Jones, and Katherine Goates.
Next to me in the front is Michelle Smith.

Variety is the Spice of Life

So, all that drivel about being determined to grow my hair out? I guess you might say it was my own personal pep-talk. Because, deep down, I've been wanting to do this for a long time:

And although I still do think my hair looks best long, I was getting tired of the Lady Lovely Locks look. Besides, I'm moving to St. George this summer and don't want to spend an hour a day under the blow dryer!

Eliza and Naomi have been trying to talk me out of it for a month now, and on principle have cast their votes against. TJ was not excited about the idea, but is warming up to it, as he always does. Paul and Ezra give me strange looks now and then, but still seem to love me just the same.

I'm hoping high school friends in St. George won't recognize me. What do you think?

Why I Think it's Great that Messy 'Dos are "In"

My first grader looks like a movie star, and he did it all by himself.
Now, if the scraggly, orphaned look would just take with kindergarten girls, we'd be set.
